I bought the uninsulated version as I am hoping to use these year round - in heavy rain in the (mild) summer and in the mist drizzle and snow of the mild winters of Denmark. The conditioner helped the leather soften, it is making the break in easier, and as you can see in the pictures, it made the leather have a bit more lustre and interest in its finish.
It conditions and waterproofs the leather and the stitches and it helps the leather look less bland.

But it is a full grain smooth leather - its finishing is just not pretty. The leather is heavily finished and flat looking. but again, it's a utilitarian waterproof boot so I do not care too much. On both pairs stitching is a bit off, but this is a utilitarian boot and the workmanship show that - there are no defects that would make me worry about the longevity, but they do not care about making it as pretty as possible. Hand made in Maine, with average level of attention to detail. That said these are not winter boots so they will have limits. The answer is yes when paired with the shearling insoles and good wool socks.
